URS Melbourne is seeking engineers to meet its increasing work load on challenging projects within civil infrastructure, water and environmentally focused industry sectors. In particular URS provides engineering consultancy services associated with the design and remediation of major roads and freeways, Local Government infrastructure, drainage works and associated structures. The Remediation Engineer should have a capability in the design, procurement, installation, operation and maintenance of remediation systems, and in particular groundwater remediation systems including NAPL management. Demonstrated experience in a variety of remedial technologies and delivery of remedial outcomes is required.

<br/><br/><b>Job Description:</b><br/>  URS Melbourne office has an opportunity for a suitably qualified human health risk assessment professional at principal consultant level to join its geo-environmental team. The main focus of the senior position is to direct and conduct human health risk assessments of environmentally and chemically contaminated land and groundwater. Risk assessments may also need to be conducted for contaminants in surface water and air.

The Principal Risk Assessor will join the Geo-Environmental Workgroup in our Melbourne Office and will be involved with hydrogeological, contaminated land and site remediation projects for a number of clients and service industries including petrochemical, chemical manufacturing, property development and government industries.

The role will include business development, project management for large and complex projects, project direction, team leadership, peer review and technical leadership for contaminated land practice workgroups.

Applicants should be highly motivated with relevant 10 to 15 years experience in the fields of human health risk assessments and environmental site assessment, including soil and groundwater contaminated studies. Experience in conducting ecological (or environmental) risk assessments would also be an advantage. Relevant post graduate qualifications (such as toxicology) and experience in a leadership position in the consulting industry would also be an advantage.

Our Contaminated Land group is primarily focused on the assessment and management of contaminated land within Victoria, but also supports other URS offices throughout Australia, and has undertaken work in most Australian States and Territories, New Zealand, South East Asia, Middle East, South Pacific States and South Africa. The Senior Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Technician should have advanced capability in the procurement; installation; commissioning; operation; and maintenance of soil and groundwater pilot test and full scale remediation systems and have a particular expertise in troubleshooting issues arising during commissioning and operation.

The Senior O&M Technician should have experience with supervision of drilling operations and subcontractors including electricians, plumbers and earthmovers.

Preparation of commissioning and O&M procedures and reports and the ability to accurately collect, record and store data obtained during pilot testing, commissioning and O&M is essential to the role. A key aspect of the role will be to actively participate in design and hazard assessment reviews of pilot tests and full scale systems.

A demonstrated ability to be a part of project teams, including engineers and scientists, subcontractors, and other suppliers, as well as an ability to interact with the general public and clients is also required. An engrained philosophy of safety in all phases of system involvement is paramount.

The person will be highly motivated and prepared to work flexible hours and travel to locations within Australia and beyond. The work will be primarily field based but will involve some office time for design reviews in particular. The role is expected to provide training, mentorship and supervision to more junior technicians and engineers.

The role is based in Melbourne but it is anticipated that the role will involve providing support to other URS offices in the region as may be required. A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience is required.
