The Graduate Environmental Scientist will be responsible for collecting environmental samples from soil, water, and air; installing monitoring wells using hollow-stem auger, air rotary, or direct-push methods; describing soil samples; supervising safe work of subcontractors; assisting with data assessments and report preparations; and other duties as assigned. Some travel required - work sites are primarily in Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, West Virginia, and District of Columbia, Some short-term overnight stays required. Candidate will be working on retail petroleum sites, terminals, pipelines, and refineries where safe working habits are mandatory. Candidate will learn and apply investigation techniques and remediation techniques for soil, groundwater, and air. Some use of full-faced, air-purifying respirator may be necessary. Must be able to work outdoors year-round at retail service stations or other petroleum facilities in urban or other settings. Must be able to use hand-bailers or purge pumps to purge monitoring wells or potable wells, collect groundwater samples and other groundwater data, record data for use by others, prepare samples for shipping, and complete chain-of-custody and other paperwork. Must be able to safely drive a full-sized pickup truck. Annual drug and alcohol testing program and random testing. Must be able to speak, read and write in English and must be able to prepare/complete/modify job hazard/safety analyses and other field paperwork. Must be able to work with others in a fast-paced, team environment but must also be able to perform field work independent of others. Will provide 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training. Overtime is paid at 1X.
